Tyre changer for motorcycles – changing tyres is so easy
Changing a motorcycle tyre can be much more difficult than it seems at first glance. It is no wonder that many bikers shy away from changing their own tyres and prefer to leave it to a professional workshop. However, there is a much easier way to separate the tyre from the rim than the conventional method with a tyre lever. With the help of a motorcycle tyre changer, this rather tedious and difficult job is made much easier.
What should I look out for before buying a tyre changer for my motorbike?
On the internet, you will find a wide selection of different tyre changers from different manufacturers and brands. They usually differ in size and colour. However, before you decide on a tyre changer for your motorbike, you should pay attention to some features.
The supported inch size
One of the important features of a motorcycle tyre changer is the supported inch size. Many of the devices offered on the internet either have an inch size of 17 to 21 inches or a size of 15 to 19 inches. Accordingly, you can only use the devices to change road and racing tyres. In contrast, the ConStands motorcycle tyre changer MD4 offers you a much more flexible range of uses with 12 to 21 inches. In addition to road and racing tyres, you can also easily change scooter and pit bike tyres with our motorcycle tyre changer.
The supported tyre width
Just as important as the supported inch size is the supported tyre width for a tyre changer for motorcycles. The MD4 variant from ConStands, for example, can be used for tyres with a width between 20mm and 240mm.
The material and the surface:
Another factor to consider is the material. The material and surface are crucial for the longevity of a product and thus also for its quality. To guarantee a particularly high durability and absolute stability, ConStands products are made of high-quality, CNC-milled aluminium.
This is how you change tyres with a motorcycle tyre changer
To make it as easy as possible for you to change your tyres in the future, we will briefly explain how our motorcycle tyre changer works. The first step, of course, is to remove the tyre. For this, we recommend using a motorcycle stand from ConStands, such as a centre stand or a lift stand. Once the wheel is removed, you can position it on the tyre changer using the 20mm axle. Once the tyre is secure, you should let the air out. To remove your tyre from the rim as easily as possible, the bead breaker arm must now be adjusted to the size of your tyres. You can then use it to remove the tyre from the rim without any problems. However, we recommend that you first attach our rim protector to the rim to avoid damage and unsightly scratches. After you have pushed the tyre all the way around the rim, turn it 180 degrees and push it off from the other side. Once the tyre has been pushed off the rim on both sides, we recommend that you use our mounting paste to sufficiently lubricate the rim edge and the tyre bead on both sides of the wheel. You should also lubricate the mounting head to make your work easier. The mounting arm and mounting head are now placed on the axle of the tyre changer. The lower bracket of the mounting head engages under the edge of the rim. To prevent the rim and tyre from slipping during removal, insert a rubberised stopper into the motorcycle tyre changer. Then use the tyre iron to pull the upper tyre bead over the mounting head. It is important to work anticlockwise. Once the upper part of the tyre has been removed from the rim, use the tyre iron to pull the lower tyre bead over the mounting head, thus separating it from the rim.
When mounting the new tyre, it is important that you lubricate the bead thoroughly with tyre lubricant again. Then push the tyre over the rim by hand using the tyre lever. Now slide the tyre bead on one side of the mounting head under the rim edge so that the tyre bead is fully drawn under the rim edge during the rotational movement. Once the tyre is properly seated, you can then fill it with air. After that, you can mount the wheel back on the motorcycle and you're ready to go.
To make changing tyres as easy as possible for you, we recommend our motorcycle tyre fitting set. In addition to the tyre changer, it also includes two adhesive weights for balancing, a tyre mounting paste, a motorcycle wheel balancer, a tyre lever and two rim protectors. This way, you are well prepared for the next time you change your tyres and can get back on the road as quickly as possible.
